The basic rules of Poker are as follows: The highest ranking hand wins. A player may not reveal his or her hole cards to the other players, but if they have a higher hand, the winner will win the pot and all bets. Players can check the pot during each betting round to see if there are any new players. After three to four raises, the pot will be too big for a player to continue. Players may fold to save money.
The highest possible hand is a royal flush, which is a sequence of five cards of the same suit. Typically, the royal flush is made up of a pair of A, K, J, and 10 of one suit. Likewise, a straight flush (a combination of four of the same suit) is the second highest hand. Next to a royal flush, the highest hand is a four of a kind. A four of a kind consists of four identical cards. The lowest hand is a high card.
When playing poker, players typically use poker chips, which come in different colors. Before the game starts, the dealer assigns values to the chips, which players exchange for the chip valued in that hand. After the first round of cards, the dealer deals out cards to the players. The dealer must shuffle the cards after each hand. In some games, the dealer can make special rules called “house rules.”
